Wedding photography
August 2nd 2010 · 1 comment

I just finished uploading a wedding photo that I took of my good friend Jussi and his beautiful fiancé Anni. We decided to aim for a fairytale-like mood and the look of a magical forest. I initially shot the photo during daytime and then post-processed it to look like it was taken in dusk.

Look for the photo in the appropriate gallery and check an alternative version and crop at my DeviantART gallery: [link]

TC1100 updates
June 30th 2010 · 8 comments

I ended up repainting the glass - twice - because the work I did was quite shoddy :) I know, it probably doesn't show in the pics. I also ordered some thermal pad material to try and make my TC1100 run cooler. The processor temperature now reaches something like 57-61 degrees Celcius and it makes my hands sweat! Since my TC1100 was bought second-hand it apparently didn't have any cooling compound applied O_O

Also, I bought a 64-gig Transcend PATA SSD for 85 euros, also second-hand. Reinstalled everything and the device seems to have gotten a new lease of life. Now if there was a replacement for the noisy fan... (maybe it'll shut up after all these refinements - here's hoping!)

PS. SimCity 4000 kicks ass on the TC1100 ;)

First photos of the black TC1100

Today I put the TC1100 back together and fired it up - and it worked! :D There are some minor details here and there which I have to take care of, but I think it looks sort of promising :)

Check out the Crafts gallery for the photos.

TC1100 mod: looking good so far!
June 20th 2010 · 0 comments

So. I was able to take the tablet PC apart successfully. I had to mark down every little detail and label the parts so that I can put it back together.

The display was probably the most difficult part to dismantle. The glass has grey borders painted behind it and it's attached to the frame with a pretty strong adhesive. After a bit of struggling I managed to pry the glass off and sand out the gray paint (I later painted the borders black). The glass had a plastic layer that, in case it shatters, probably holds the shards together (like a car windshield). While trying to remove the excess adhesive from the glass using acetone the plastic layer become fogged and I had to remove it too... Man, the amount of sticky goo I had to scrape off the glass...!!

I've been away for a couple of days and I left the parts dry in my balcony. Tomorrow I'll hopefully put the device back together. I'm confident it'll turn out quite ok - I'm more concerned about the balcony :D

I took a lot of photos along the way and I think I'll try to scrape together a PDF file describing the project.

(An attempt at) Modding my HP TC1100
June 17th 2010 · 2 comments

I just don't seem to be able to restrain myself from customizing my equipment! My wonderful TC1100 [link] had a few scuffs on its corners where the gray paint had worn out, revealing the black plastic beneath. So, what did I do? I went to a hardware store and bought some 1000-grit sandpaper, masked the TC very carefully and sanded the front bezel :) I must say it turned out very good; my TC1100 now has a shiny black frame.

The trouble started when I decided to do the same for the back bezel: it's metal, it seems. So, instead of a matching black bezel what I got was brushed aluminum! Today I'm off to the hardware store again to find some dark, near-black grey - I plan to carefully repaint the whole thing.

*Damn* there are a lot of small parts...

Photos from my 6x6 Zenza Bronica S2A
June 9th 2010 · 2 comments

I just finished uploading a series of photos I've taken with my beloved medium format film camera. They were scanned using a Flextight film scanner at 3500dpi which resulted in about 51 megapixel, 16-bit TIFF files (over 300MB per file!).

Go ahead and peek in the Photography gallery and look for "Borderlands I-VI"

Updates!
April 4th 2010 · 3 comments

So what I did was I wrote the whole site from the ground up. This one is a lot easier for me to maintain, so maybe this time the 'latest' blog entry won't be from a year ago :)

EDIT: Just finished coding an initial commenting system for these entries!
